Available in both 2WD and 4WD, the all-new 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe boasts three trim varieties – Luxury Touring, Luxury Sport and Luxury Touring with Leather, better known as LT, LS and LTZ. The Tahoe’s standard rear-wheel drive engine is a 295-hp, 4.8 litre V8. The standard on 4WD models come with 320-hp, 5.2 litre V8 and includes the Active Fuel Management (AFM) technology. By switching off four cylinders when driving under normal road conditions, the AFM technology conserves energy, which is a great benefit. Also, there’s a version of this engine which is able to run on regular unleaded gasoline and E85 ethanol blended fuel.
Classifiable as a carryover in 2008, the Chevrolet Tahoe includes standard features such as four-speed automatic transmission, dual-zone air conditioning, five cloth seating arrangements, tire-pressure monitoring system, 17-inch wheels, eight-speaker audio system with CD player, StabiliTrak stability control with rollover resistance and OnStar service for one year.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rating for the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe is five-stars, both for driver front and passenger crash safety features. The ratings are based on the Chevy’s anti-lock brakes, stability control, front impact airbags, overhead airbags, pretensioners and security system functionality.The safety features in combination allow the Chevy to recognise instant braking and modulate the brake pressure for tire rotation, reduce skid possibilities, protection from frontal, side or rollover collisions, automatic optimal seating position adjustments in the case of accidents and detection and prevention of auto theft.
